If you are not familiar, a michelada is a classic Mexican beer cocktail with countless regional variations— it’s also zesty, spicy, and incredibly refreshing. This michelada recipe is my tribute to a drink I’ve come to love through travel, friendships, and lots of trial and error. It’s based on traditional versions I’ve tasted through the years, especially the citrus-forward ones with a hit of umami from Maggi and Worcestershire. I know every michelada lover has their favorite mix, so I’m sharing mine from the varieties I’ve had through the years!

I love turning to this recipe for an easy, party-friendly cocktail. Make a big batch of this delicious drink for summer parties spent poolside. You can make the mix in a big pitcher, then store it in the refrigerator for a few hours or even a few days before you want to serve it. When your guests arrive, rim a few glasses with lime and Tajín seasoning, then add ice and top with the prepared mix and a cold beer like Corona or Modelo. This recipe will yield four to six drinks, but it’s easy enough to scale up for a crowd.

For the best flavor possible, use freshly squeezed lime juice and lemon juice rather than the bottled stuff. It will be brighter, fresher, and all around better. When shopping for hot sauce, look for Tapatio or Valentina, which are two of my favorite brands. If you can’t find them, feel free to use whatever hot sauce you have in your refrigerator. Cheers!

recipe faqs:

what is maggi seasoning?

Similar to Worcestershire sauce or soy sauce, this savory, umami-packed sauce is made with wheat protein and adds so much flavor to a dish.

can I make michelada mix in advance?

Yes! You can make the mix without the beer a few days ahead of when you want to serve it.

I hope you and your friends love this Michelada Mix as much as I do! Comment below if you try it!

    1. It’s a delicious sauce that’s similar to soy sauce or Worcestershire. You should be able to find it in your grocery store, but you can always use soy sauce as a substitute.
