Clayton’s classic margarita is so iconic and beloved that we decided it needed a festive twist! Enter Clayton’s Holiday Margarita!

Since you all love the original Clayton’s Margarita recipe (it’s continuously one of my most popular blog posts!), I thought it would be fun to add this simple twist to the classic recipe just like we did with Clayton’s Grapefruit Margarita. It doesn’t take rocket science to make a tweak or two to his original recipe, but ’tis the season to have some fun and give everything a little holiday spirit! A little pomegranate juice, a sprig of rosemary — and ho, ho, ho the perfect holiday cocktail!

If you are not familiar with the original recipe, don’t let the egg whites scare you! Bartenders often use egg whites in their crafted cocktails to help create that delicious foam cap. It might seem strange, but it is one of my favorite parts of the recipe! And you don’t even need to get the blender out to create the foam. If you’re making a small batch and do not want to mess with the blender, simply add all of the ingredients to your shaker and shake away until you begin to create the foam.
It’s also such an easy recipe to scale up for a crowd, which makes it perfect for holiday entertaining!
ingredients:
- Tequila
- Cointreau
- Simple Syrup
- Fresh Lime Juice
- Unsweetened Pomegranate Juice
- Egg Whites
- Flaky Salt
step-by-step:
step one: blend the ingredients
In a large blender, combine the tequila, Cointreau, simple syrup, fresh lime juice, pomegranate juice, and egg whites in a high-powered blender. Blend until very frothy, 30 seconds to 1 minute.
step two: pour and serve
Pour over a salt-rimmed glass filled with ice. Garnish with a sprig of rosemary and serve!
Absolutely! Mezcal has a smoky flavor that I just love and I think it would add a whole other layer of flavor to this tart, herbaceous cocktail.
Look for unsweetened pure pomegranate juice from a good brand like POM Wonderful.
I hope y’all shake up some of Clayton’s Holiday Margaritas at all of your end of year parties! Comment below and let me know what you think of this drink!

These were a HIT at our Christmas this year!! Will definitely be making again.
Hi! Could I use the same amount of agave syrup to substitute the simple syrup ?
I wouldn’t do equal amounts– that would be a bit too strong i think. I would just add a tablespoon or so and you can always add more, to taste, to sweeten.
We made these for a festive at home Christmas date night and we LOVED them!
Made these for an outdoor happy hour…so festive and yummy. 4 stars only because clayton’s original margaritas are my absolute favorite
Do you have a brand of simple syrup you like to use?
I normally just make it myself! it’s just equal parts sugar and water on the stove top, bring to a boil, then simmer and stir until sugar is dissolved. Sometimes I use Monkfruit for a lower-calorie option but Clayton doesn’t like it as much and says it ruins the recipe! haha.
Have you tied it with cranberry instead of Pom?
I have not but I am sure it would be great as well. If you try it, let us know how it is on here!
A friend made these for a recent party (minus the egg whites) and they are delicious! I actually mixed my glass with a splash of Topo Chico (like a real Texan 😉) and it was delicious and bubbly!
LOVE this! I actually had Pomegranate Simple Syrup so I used that it it was fabulous
What brand of pomegranate juice did you use? Ours turned brown 🙁
POM Wonderful
Looks delicious! I am allergic to eggs & wondering if there is a substitute to give it the froth?!
I am not sure how to froth without the egg white, I am sorry! but the drink is still great w/out the froth, too!
This sounds gross, and admittedly I have never tried it, but a lot of people who prefer not to use egg whites will use aquafaba. The liquid from a can of chickpeas- they do equal amounts as you would egg white- and it supposedly does not change the flavor of the cocktail.
A lot of vegan dishes use Aquafaba (liquid from a can of chickpeas) as an egg replacement and it froths pretty well. Just not sure if it would change the taste!?
Whoops.. clearly didn’t keep reading others comments! Glad we are all suggesting the same thing lol
I’ve heard that you can use aquafaba which is the liquid in chickpea can!
Chick pea liquid is a common replacement for egg whites in cocktails. It gives the foam with no eggs, and doesn’t give the drink any off taste.
Thanks for the tip!!! I had no idea.
Do you have a possible option for a strawberry version?
Ohh love this idea, i’ll have to work on it!! I would do frozen strawberries and blend it with some lime, tequila, and cointreau!
Can’t wait! Is the pomegranate juice sweetened or unsweetened? Thanks
unsweetened!
I love trying new marg recipes and this one looks fab! What type of tequila do you use as far as blanco or silver vs reposado?
I use blanco!
This looks delicious! I am however very curious about the egg white?
Egg whites are commonly used in cocktails to add froth! 🙂
Made these tonight and they are seriously incredible!! We dusted just a tiny bit of powdered sugar on top to increase the festivity 😉 thanks so much!
so fun!!!!
