Y’all know that I can never say no to a margarita (especially my husband’s famous recipe!), so if you’re like me, you’re going to love my Spicy Skinny Margaritas! They’re the perfect drink for a poolside hang or your next summer gathering.

There are a few things I do to this margarita recipe that make it a little extra special. The first is muddling thinly sliced jalapeรฑo peppers with some lime juiceโ€”this helps bring out the spicy notes of the pepper before you add the rest of the ingredients. Then you’ll shake up the tequila, OJ, honey, and egg whites (without ice!) until the mixture is frothy, then pour it into your favorite party glasses. I like to rim each glass with salt and a lime wedge because is it really a margarita without them?! With just a few ingredients, you’ll have a cocktail your guests are sure to enjoy!

ingredients

  • Jalapeรฑo Pepper
  • Freshly Squeezed Lime Juice
  • Blanco Tequila
  • Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice
  • Honey
  • Egg Whites
  • Coarse Salt
  • Lime Wedges

step-by-step:

step one: muddle the jalapeรฑos

Add the sliced jalapeรฑo peppers and lime juice to a cocktail shaker. With a cocktail muddler or back of a wooden spoon, mash to break up the peppers.

step two: make the margarita mix

Add the tequila, orange juice, honey, and egg white to the shaker, then cover and shake (do not add ice).

step three: rim the glass

Rub a lime wedge around the rim of two glasses, then dip in coarse salt.

step four: garnish and serve

Fill the glasses with ice, then top with the margarita. Garnish with a lime wedge and enjoy!

recipe faq:

do i need to add the egg white?

A small amount of egg whites helps to give this margarita its foamy top! However, if you prefer to omit from this recipe, you can do that as well.

what type of tequila do you recommend?

LALO is my and Clayton’s favorite!

    1. the orange juice adds a nice sweetness without too much sugar- you can do lemon juice and lime juice combo here!

    1. While it may seem like an odd addition for a drink, egg white is a pretty common ingredient in classic cocktails. Egg white produces that beautiful, pale layer of foam that you see on top of some drinks when dining out. Besides looking lovely, it adds a soft, pillowy element to the texture of drinks.

      1. I am trying to make these ahead of time but donโ€™t want to add the egg white 24 hours before serving. Could I leave it out altogether and it just wouldnโ€™t have the foam on top?
