The Defined Dish Office

To say I am excited about my new home office would be a complete understatement. I am THRILLED to have my very own space to operate my business. Having my own clear and clean workspace that is designed for functionality and encouraging creativity is exactly what I need.

When we bought our new house, I selected the bedroom that was right beside the kitchen to be my office. Because I use it as my studio for taking photos, it made the most sense to have it nearby so I can walk my food into the room to snap and style my images.

Here are some of the BEFORE photos of the space. You can see what we did was pretty straightforward: rip out the carpet and replace it with wood floors + rip out the mirror/closet to make the room more open and create more space. From there, some fresh paint on the walls and a new corkboard for pinning inspiration and more— we were ready to go.

While I could not wait to have my own space, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a bit anxious and overwhelmed when it came to design decisions — especially choosing paint colors! With so many colors out there, I did not know where to begin on deciding. Thankfully Sherwin-Williams made it a breeze with their Color ID quiz.

Each of the eight Color ID personality collections has 16 colors all carefully selected by Sherwin-Williams color experts that can be used seamlessly together. So all you have to do from there is pick the colors within the collection and get painting!

After the quiz, I found out my Color ID is The Minimalist — surprise, I know! As the quiz says, I find joy in simplicity which is exactly what I was going for with the space. I was so excited when I saw the colors it pulled for me. I honestly would have used any and all of them but I selected two of the 16 colors: Crushed Ice SW 7647 and Unfussy Beige SW 6043.

These two colors immediately jumped out at me. First off, the Unfussy Beige SW 6043 is such a good neutral, but it also has a hint of pink in it. You may or may not notice, but I love to incorporate a hint of pink throughout my blog photos and cookbook photos. So it seemed perfectly on brand. I then thought that the Crushed Ice SW 7647 color would be the perfect color to go alongside it.

On one of my walls, I made a giant cork-board wall. This is where I used the Unfussy Beige SW 6043 color on the lower half of the corkboard. The rest of the room is Crushed Ice SW 7647, which I felt was the perfect backdrop to all of my dishes/props/etc., so it would highlight them rather than fight with them.
