It’s one of the main ingredients in BBQ sauce, which is why finding a delicious Whole30-approved bbq sauce is so tricky—and it’s even harder to make one from scratch. After a whole lot of trial and error, this Whole30 BBQ Sauce is perfectly vinegary, a little spicy, and a little sweet.

The best thing about this recipe is that it doesn’t require a ton of ingredients. Plus, it comes together in a snap! All you need to do is toss a few things in a saucepan, stir, and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes. That’s it!

ingredients:

  • Tomato Sauce
  • Balsamic Vinegar
  • Garlic Cloves
  • Yellow Mustard
  • Crystal Hot Sauce
  • Smoked Paprika
  • Kosher Salt
  • Freshly Ground Black Pepper

step-by-step:

step one: make the bbq sauce

Combine all of the ingredients in a small saucepan set over medium heat. Let simmer until sauce thickens and the flavors meld, about 10 minutes.

step two: cool and store

Cool completely, then transfer to a mason jar and store in the fridge for up to 7 days.

does this freeze well?

Yes! You can store the sauce in deli containers or a glass mason jar in the freezer for up to three months. Be sure to leave about an inch or so of room to allow the sauce to expand when frozen.

  1. I have made this several times. What’s nice about it is that it’s ingredients that you probably have. I mix this half and half with salsa to make sloppy joes.

  2. We make this on repeat in our house! It is quick and better than any bottled bbq sauce I can find at the store! Maybe next SideDish sauce 😎😎

  3. Do you have any suggestions that crystal’s hot sauce can be substituted with? Is franks hot sauce a similar flavor?

    1. I’d say Tabasco is the second best bet. Frank’s is okay, too, but it’s a little more “buffalo” flavored if that makes sense?
