Peppermint Espresso Martini

Servings: 2 Martinis

Ingredients

For the Glass Rimming:

  • 1 tablespoon simple syrup
  • Crushed peppermint, for rimming the glass (optional)

For the Martinis:

  • 3 oz vodka (or 2 "big jiggers" full, I use Titos)
  • 1 oz Pepperment Mocha Kahlua (1 "small jigger" full)
  • 1 oz simple syrup (1 "small jigger" full)
  • 1.5 oz large hot espresso (1 "big jiggers" full, see note for why it needs to be hot!)

Instructions

Prep the Glasses:

  • To start, prepare the glasses. Add simple syrup to a shallow plate. Add crushed peppermint to a separate plate. Dip the edge of the glass in the simple syrup to coat the rim then gently press the peppermint onto the rim. Repeat with the second glass and set aside.

Make the Martini:

  • Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the vodka, Peppermint Mocha Kahlua, simple syrup and hot espresso. Close, seal, and shake until very cold (at least 20 seconds).
  • Place the strainer on top of the shaker and pour the contents through a sieve (optional) directly into the prepared glasses.

Notes

It may seem strange to pour hot espresso into a cold drink, but the heat combined with the other ingredients in the cold shaker help to create the foam! The strainer and the sieve additionally help to create a rich, smooth, froth without any pieces of ice.
